 Ray O. Duncan Award
Ray O. Duncan was a University of Illinois graduate where he received his Ph.D. and LL.D. He became dean at West Virginia University in 1952. Duncan was known fondly and respectably by his students. Of his many national accomplishments, none are more noteworthy than his having served two terms as President of AAHPERD from 1956-58. Duncan also served as president of WVAHPERD and as the chair of the Athletic Council.
Given for: Distinguished Professional Services in the fields of Health, Physical Education, Recreation, or Dance.
Criteria:
- Recipient may be a non-professional and/or non-member of SHAPEWV;
- If a member of SHAPEWV, he/she must be recipient of the Honor Award;
- Recipient must have rendered exemplary service to the Association and the professional over a period of five years; and
- No more than one awarded annually.

Given for: Distinguished Professional Service and Inspiration to Association.
Criteria:
- Recipient must be a member of SHAPEWV for at least three years;
- No more than three awarded annually.

Scholar Award
Given for: Outstanding scholarly work, presentations and active service to the areas of SHAPEWV.
Criteria:
- Candidate shall have maintained membership for a minimum of five years in SHAPEWV and SHAPE America;
- Candidate shall display scholarly activity, service and commitment to the profession
Past Scholar Awardees
 Dr. Dana Brooks Professional Mentor Award
Dr. Dana D. Brooks retired as the Dean of the College of Physical Activities and Sport Sciences on June 30, 2019. He has made over 100 presentations at the state, national and international levels. He was co-editor and author of Racism and College Athletics (3rd edition), Diversity and Social Justice in College Sports, and seven book chapters. He has taught the following classes: African Americans in Sport and Individual Interactions in Sport (Sociology of Sport).
Given for: Distinguished Service as a mentor to other professionals or students.
Criteria:
- Recipient must be a member of SHAPEWV;
- Recipient must have demonstrated excellence while serving as a mentor to Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance professionals, students or others in the fields that promote healthy lifestyles.

Recreation & Leisure Leadership Award
Given for: Outstanding and creative leadership in the recreation profession or as an innovative leisure educator at the college/university level.
Criteria:
- Candidate shall be a current member of SHAPEWV.
- Candidate shall be a person who has exhibited outstanding and creative leadership in the recreation profession or as an innovative leisure educator at the college/university level.
- Candidate shall be involved in recreation leadership as illustrated by having delivered presentations, workshops and conferences or written publications in the various areas of recreation/leisure.

Young Professional Award
Given for: Outstanding Achievement and Service to the areas of SHAPEWV.
Criteria:
- Candidate must be an active SHAPEWV member;
- Candidate is a professional who has been in the profession for less than 15 years regardless of the age of the individual;
- Candidate will be evaluated on scholarship, service to the profession (particularly to SHAPEWV and teaching).

 Bea N. Orr Undergraduate Student Award
Given for: Outstanding Achievement and Service to the areas of SHAPEWV.
Criteria:
- Recipient must be a member of SHAPEWV and must be recommended by his/her college or university;
- No more than two awarded annually;
- Candidates shall have performed with distinction as a member as his/her undergraduate institution with priority given to the student's coursework, extracurricular activities, commitment to the profession and promises for success in such a career.
Past Bea N. Orr Undergraduate Student Awardees
 Dr. Eloise Elliott Graduate Student Award
Dr. Eloise Elliott is currently a Ware Distinguished Professor in the College of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences (CPASS) at West Virginia University. Her primary focus is on outreach and research that will improve the health and well-being of the citizens of West Virginia, with a particular interest in children and their families. She has led the WV Physical Activity Plan, WV Physical Activity Symposiums, created and maintains Active Academics, serves as co-director for the WV CARDIAC Project, serves on state and national committees and teachers doctoral level courses in the Coaching and Teaching Studies Program in CPASS: Curriculum and Evaluation and Dissertation Seminar.
Given for: Outstanding Achievement and Service to the areas of SHAPEWV.
Criteria:
- Recipient must be a member of SHAPEWV and must be recommended by his/her college or university;
- No more than two awarded annually;
- Candidates shall have performed with distinction as a member at his/her graduate institution with priority given to the student's coursework, extracurricular activities, commitment to the profession and promises for success in such a career.
